Ad 2) DSB X, 360: "Pasteur unexpectedly achieved the transformation (of tartaris into racemic acid) in May 1853 by heating cinchonine tartrate....In the memoir (1 Aug.1853) in which he announced these two discoveries, Pasteur disclosed a new method for separating racemic acid into its left- and right-handed components. Although introduced by Pasteur only for the case of racemic acid, this new method clearly had wider applicability and was soon used to separate the left- and right-handed components in other 'racemic substances', Darmstädter. 543: The discovery of Chinicin was announced earlier in 1853 and is fully elaborated upon here. Both papers here offered belong to a series of important research papers focussing on the asymmetry of molecules. Ad 1) DSB vol. A very good copy of this "erotico-satyrical treatsie on virginity" [annotation Kuyper 39, 3429]. NNBW vol. VII, p. 126 - 127: Van der Aa, B., p. 151: First edition of his first work. Beverland was a lawyer and a rich and extremely gifted man of letters, but due to his writings gained a bad reputation and fled to England. His 'Peccatum originale' (1678, reprinted under his own name in 1679) posed that man's original fall from grace solely originated from Adam and Eve's ''conversatio carnalis". Beverland was forced to retract these views and was fined 100 silver dukatons. Beverland did not mend his ways.: Brunet vol. I, p. 837: Graesse vol. I, p. 357: Ebert, 2076: Gay-Lemmonier vol. She met Crown Prince Ferdinand, Heir Apparent to the Romanian throne, but a year later married Prince George III Valentin Bibescu, from one of the country's aristocratic families. After coming out in society around 1900, she embarked on a lifelong career of writing fiction and non-fiction. Along the way meeting celebrities such as Maxim Gorki, Marcel Proust, Jean Cocteau, Paul Valéry, Rilke, Winston Churchill, Alfonso XIII of Spain, Ramsay Macdonald, Vita Sackville - West, Philip Sassoon, the list goes on and on.
