Stensen [Steno] stayed with him and discovered the ductus parotideus (Stenonianus) at a sheep's head at his house. Blasius published the discovery in his 'Medicina generalis', which led to a public contoversy with Steno, who claimed the honour of the discovery...': BMN I, 1: Not in Wellcome of Krivatsky: Banga, 376: In the preface Blasius claims the discovery about which Steno complained in his 'Observationes anatomicae' (Comp. G&M 973). Then B. complained about this in a long letter to Steno's fellow countryman Bartholinus, who tried to reconcile the two. Comp. Dobson, 195/6: W. laudatory poems in Latin by Th. 'De meerderheid heeft in het verzoek geconsenteerd, dog Holland heeft de conclusie gecontradiceerd.' [The majority of the council agreed, but Holland 'contradicted' the conclusion], requiring further information on the case. Van Bleiswijk will be present at the further hearing on Friday next and will send further news to the 'Generaliteit'.

'Aan zee'. Autograaf gedicht door J.C.Bloem, 4 stanza's van 4 regels. Met interessante correctie in inkt in regel 2. 'daarvan' gecorrigeerd tot 'daar', de versie zoals hij is opgenomen in de verzamelde gedichten 1965. Keerzijde van het briefje met potloodaantekeningen 'Waren om' en 3 cryptische notities '81.1 E 45 3 g Getooide Doolhof'; '81.1 H11. 7 l Liederen'; '81.1 L 35. 1 a 'Aardsch Paradijs'; Het lijkt erop dat deze verwijzingen van Eyck's 'De getooide doolhof (Zeist, M. Boogaerdt Jr. 1909)', 'Liederen en balladen' (Amsterdam, Versluys, 1911) & 'Het aardsche paradijs' (Santpoort, C.A.Mees, 1927) betreffen. De nummering verwijst mogelijk naar de plaats in Bloem's bibliotheek: Kast 81 plank 1, E45, 3 g (voor 'getooide'?).
Plaats onbekend, autograaf. No date [ca 1950?]. 8vo. 18.5 x 14.5 cm. Iets gelig getint ongelinieerd papier met scheurrand / kartelrand. 2 x [ongelijk] gevouwen tot 9 x 9 cm. Titel, 16 regels en signatuur op recto. Verso van het schrijfblok blaadje met de bovengemelde tekst, verwijzend naar van Eyck's werk. Mogelijk later afschrift. Handschriftversie in autograaf van J.C. Bloem, het gedicht verscheen in 1942 in 'Enkele Gedichten', p. 33 en uiteindelijk in zijn verzamelde gedichten, 1965. Van het gedicht is geen voorpublikatie bekend in tijdschrift- of boekvorm, ook geen handschriftversies. Johan Polak kocht ooit een kladschrift van Bloem, verder is er door de dichter niets van deze aard bewaard. Interessant is Bloem's eigenhandige correctie in regel 2 van de eerste stanza. 'daarvan' gecorrigeerd tot 'daar'. 'Aan zee / Een gore zee/ Aan 't strand daar / Van lieverlee / Een eenzaam man./ 2. Zijn blik is naar / Verlatenheid; / Geen uitzicht waar / men die vermijdt./ 3. In 't niets verglijdt / Zonder misbaar / De hooploosheid / Van weer een jaar./ 4. De mond blijft stom/ Tegen de tijd,/ Want ouderdom / is eenzaamheid./ J.C.Bloem/ Zie de biografie van Bart Slijper 'Van alle dingen los', [Arbeiderspers, 2007], i.l.c. Jacobus Cornelis Bloem [1887 Oudshoorn - 1966 Kalenberg]. Bloem, ook wel de dichter van het [onvervuld] verlangen genoemd. '... van de hunkering naar een vervulling of een geluk dat altijd onbereikbaar zal zijn, terwijl de dood steeds dichterbij komt. Berusting voert uiteindelijk de boventoon, ...'. Sötemann & van Vliet, 1979], vinden we onder nr. 155 het gedicht 'Aan Zee', waarbij een datering 'Voorjaar 1940 (?)' wordt gegeven ivm de interpretatie van regel 11-12 'De hooploosheid // Van weer een jaar', hetgeen zou kunnen slaan op een verjaardag, 'dan lijkt mei 1940 aannemelijk'.
