Used; Very Good Kin (pseud. of Surovikin 1903-1937) a member of the CPSU, was the son of a railway worker. He worked in the partisan underground in the Far East and began his literary career as a topical satirist for the Moscow press (for example in Komsomol'skaia Pravda). Between 1931 and 1936, he worked for TASS and Journal de Moscou. The present book is his only completed novel. Made and printed in England by Purnell and Sons, Paulton (Somerset) and London. Striking 3 tone Modernist jacket design including naive cursive lettering. 3 closed tears to dust-wrapper, Used; Very Good Entr'acte is an illustration of the truth that " art may require passion, but life requires self-control." Elisabeth Arsenieff, a young girl belonging to an impoverished family in Berlin, misses by chance the opportunity of marrying the man she really loves, and marries instead one who helps her to a triumphant career as a pianist. Long afterwards, too late, she meets the first man again, and sees her whole life as " nothing but an entr'acte between two concerts." Musical novels are often gushing, soulful, and esoteric. Kruchenykh was perhaps the most radical poet of Russian Futurism, a movement that included Vladimir Mayakovsky, David Burliuk and others. Together with Velimir Khlebnikov, Kruchenykh is considered the inventor of "Zaum". The cover was designed by Gustav Klutsis, Constructivist avant-garde photographer and illustrator. Paperback.
