Werner von Braun in front of a model [Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville Ala[bama], quasi demonstrating the model of the earth's globe. In the background 2 framed pictures of rocket launches. The location of the museum where von Braun is posing for this picture is undoubtedly the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, location of the George Marshall Space Flight Center, so named in 1960 and in fact the beginning of NASA. Von Braun and appr. 100 of his rocket scientists struck a deal with the Americans towards the end of the Second World War. They had been working on the V2 rocket in Peenemuende and in september 1945 were given every opportunity to continue their research and development, first at Fort Bliss Texas and from 1950 onwards in Redstone, Alabama. January 31st 1958 Von Braun was responsible for the launch of America's first satelite from Huntsville, the "Explorer I". Von Braun became director of GMSFC in 1960 and remained there until 1970. A very good copy: G&M 5547: 'Edwin Smith, pioneer Egyptologist, purchased at Luxor in 1862 the papyrus which bears his name. It is now in the possession of the New York Historical Society. The original text was written about 3000 B.C. and the present manuscript is a copy dating about 1600 B.C. It is the oldest known surgical treatise and consists entirely of case reports; it describes 47 different cases of injuries and afflictions of the head, nose and mouth, together with methods of bandaging.': Winnett Orr, 166:

Breda laid the scientific foundation for the geological knowledge of the ancient Netherlands, proving, that our diluvium was not only of Scandinavian origin. He was professor of botany, chemistry and pharmacy at the university of Franeker from October 1816 onwards.: DMB, c 246 - 248: The above oration was van Breda's inaugural address at the Franeker Athenaeum. He married Frederica Camper, daughter of Gilles Camper [son of Petrus Camper]. He was appointed professor of botany, zoology and comparartive anatomy in Ghent in 1822, professor of Geology at Leiden 1831, moved to Haarlem in 1839. Successor of van Marum as secretary of the HMW ['Hollandsche Mij. der Wetenschappen'] and director of Teyler's in 1839. 'According to his biographer Matthes he laid the scientific foundation for the geological knowledge of the Netherlands in old time... Prominent foreign scientists, such as Humboldt and Cuvier, were [among] his correspondents and friends.': Van Breda edited Linnaeus's 'Philosophia Botanica' in the 1820ties.

Dolf Breetvelt [1892 - 1975] heeft zijn opleiding gehad aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. Breetvelt werkte als tekenleraar in Nederlands Indië, waar hij vanaf 1920 woonde. Na zijn terugkeer in Nederland in 1938 en na de oorlogstijd werd hij lid van 'Vrij Beelden' in 1949 en legde zich toe op abstract werk.
