This pinback maybe circa 1968 based on provenance. According to the previous owner, this pinback may have been acquired at an event where Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) was speaking. The former owner was an editor and author for a Boston underground newspaper, and if their recollections are accurate, they were at this event to interview Kwame Ture. VERY GOOD condition. small dark stuff on the curl. Reverse of the pinback rather rusted. Very Good .

This issue with a large photo of a Black soldier, along with a small map of the area in which protests in Chicago were to happen. Front page discusses the refusal of Black GIs to serve a riot control in Chicago, with 43 held in a stockade. Reverse gives news briefs, firsthand accounts of protesting, etc. GOOD+ condition. Mostly minor general toning, a bit heavier along the folds. Good .

Rolf Goetze, artist. Poster features the names James Dean and Natalie Wood prominently across the top, with a large illustration of both. German text, "..denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun," in blue at the lower left. GOOD condition. One vertical and three horizontal fold creases present (stored folded). Minor toning and soiling. Minor creasing and wrinkling at the corners. Several small tack holes/punctures at each corner. A few minor tears along the edges. Old price sticker on the reverse. Good .

Full title: Report of the Secretary of the Treasury, communicating, in compliance with a resolution of the Senate of the 14th of August, 1856, a report of the progress on the construction and distribution of standards of weights and measures, and supply of hydrometers to the custom-houses; the balances made and distributed to States, and the legislation thereof relative to standard weights and measures. 34th Congress, 3d Session Senate Ex. Doc. No. 27. No printer or publisher given. [Washington DC] 1857. Disbound. 218 pages including index. Plus a fold out chart at the rear and 5 other fold out diagrams within. They consist of a diagram of Saxton's Yard Dividing Machine, Saxton's Reflecting Pyrometer and Comparator, a plan for a small building for use in weighing and measuring, a reproduction of the label used for the weights and measures, a diagram of Silberman's lever and Microscope Comparator and Borda's Thermometer and a graph of results from an experiment on the weights of different liquids at different temperatures. A senate report recounting the efforts to standardize weights and measures in the United States, as well as documenting the equipment being used to do so. Disbound in GOOD condition. Despite lacking covers the text block is solid. Minor to moderate foxing throughout. Browning/offsetting present to several of the pages. Minor wrinkling to the first page. Good .

A collection of five resolutions addressing other students of Harvard University, discussing recent student protests on campus against the expansion of the ROTC program and Harvard 's involvement in the Vietnam War. The piece discusses police violence against protesters, the decision to hold a three day strike, demands for criminal charges against students to be dropped, scholarships restored, etc. GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present, with other wrinkling and creasing. Heavy toning along the extremities. Minor soiling. Good .

Cochran for embezzlement. Includes a small photograph, as well as a description of his appearance, characterizing him as a fast talker, very gentlemanly in manner, very dressy etc. GOOD condition. Small hole in the upper center of the paper, with another small hole near the lower right corner. Flier appears to have been removed from a backing of some sort, resulting in the peeling off of paper on the reverse side, somewhat visible on the front. Minor toning. Two horizontal fold creases present, with a small tear at the edge of one. Good .

Designed to look like a composition notebook by John Vaughan, with illustrations by Michael Kirwin. A piece that unfolds into a poster like piece, listing a variety of events to be held at The Saint nightclub in May and the Summer of perhaps 1985. Of note is the Saint's 1st Theatre Party featuring a performance of William Hoffman's play "As Is," a work that depicted the toll of the AIDS epidemic on the gay community. The Saint, a gay nightclub, opened in 1980 in the old Fillmore East building. Founded by Bruce Mailman, the club operated for most of existence as a members' only venue, and earned a reputation for the parties held there. The club closed in 1988. VERY GOOD condition. St. Joseph, MO, Progressive Numbers, presumed Publisher, 1919. Unbound. Single sheet folded into 4 pages, making a small booklet. Printed on card stock. A program for an event held by what appears to have been an African American fraternal or social organization. The event was held May 15th, 1919. The event started at 8:45 pm, with food served promptly at 9:30. The invocation was led by Reverend E.M. Cohron, and it appears the poem, "At the Closed Gates of Justice," by James D. Corrothers was read, cited by its first line "To be a Negro on a Day Like This." Another address, "Where Ethiopia Should Stretch Forth Her Hands," was also given. Honorary members of Progressive Numbers are listed, including Rev. J.A. Gregg, Richard B. Harrison and Clarence Cameron White. List of last names and first initials of 12 members also present. While we could find nothing identifying this organization, its motto is "Onward, Upward" and its colors are lavender and cream. GOOD condition. Moderate toning and minor soiling. Heavy offsetting to the rear panel. Minor edgewear. Good .

Name Withheld (for privacy). 6 items, as follows: two reproductions of a State Prison Escape Bulletin relating to the former owner's apparent escape from the Sierra Conservation Center Correctional Facility, where they were held for robbery; small mug shots photo, with prisoner id number; a certificate from the City of Los Angeles issued to the person for their participation in holding the Festival in Black (a festival that celebrated Black community and culture in Los Angeles); A drawing of two young Black children by the owner, signed and dated (19) 99; a drawing portrait of Malcolm X, who is imagining a cross with KKK on it, as well as a tree with a noose, also signed and dated as previous entry. Other than the photo, the papers are roughly 8 ½ by 11 inches or slightly bigger. Very little information could be found on the previous owner, although based on provenance, they were the child of a Black activist. All in VERY GOOD or so condition, with minor scattered wrinkling, soiling and edgewear. Very Good .
