A pinback celebrating a Shriner outing held in 1909, featuring a man holding two chains attached to a badge style piece bearing a clam shell. Man's hat colored red. The Shriners originated within the Freemasons. GOOD+ condition. Red paint mostly scuffed off of the hat. Metal rather tarnished on the front. Good .

A collection of thank you letters from various candidates for office running in the United States, ranging from Vice-President (Hubert Humphrey) to governor. All signed by the politicians, and most accompanied by copies of the original donation letter. From the collection a private businessman who was evidently interested in helping the Democratic Party. Collection includes a 1956 telephone directory and guide to the Democratic National Convention; 1966 typed letter signed by Senator John Sparkman; 1966 typed letter signed by Senator Paul H. Douglas; 1966 typed letter signed by Governor of NH, John W. King; 1966 typed letter signed by candidate Endicott Peabody; 1964 Johnson For President Committee letter, signed by its treasurer; 1964 Gala Victory Party letter, with tickets, signed by dinner chairman; 1964 typed letter signed by Representative Eugene Keogh; 1964 typed letter signed by future Vice-President, Hubert Humphrey, along with a few other typed letters from various political campaign members. All in GOOD or better condition, with letters stapled together, some fold creases and other minor wear. A few with minor notes in pencil. Good .

Professor Morris J. Lansky Defense Fund Contribution Letter
No Place, No publisher. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Perhaps Arizona, late 1970, early 1971. Three sheets, 8 ½ by 11 inches, with two stapled at the upper left corner. Dark yellow stock. Printed on single sides only. A letter explaining the plight of Professor Morris J. Lansky, accompanied by a short biography page. The letter details his struggles with Arizona State University after he addressed students at an anti-racism rally. The Arizona State Board of Regents brought charges against him, which after a public hearing, were dismissed. Despite this, he was dismissed from ASU in June of 1970. He was then declined for a temporary position in California due to this interaction. Various suits were brought against ASU and California. The letter sought to establish a "Committee of 1000," to raise $1000 for his legal expenses. Morris J. Lansky was a professor and was one of the first citizens to use the Freedom of Information Act to discover that he was subjected to the FBI's COINTELPRO, revealing he had been subject to illegal wiretaps and surveillance. VERY GOOD condition. Vertical fold creases present. Minor wrinkling. Very Good .

This pinback maybe circa 1968 based on provenance. According to the previous owner, this pinback may have been acquired at an event where Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) was speaking. The former owner was an editor and author for a Boston underground newspaper, and if their recollections are accurate, they were at this event to interview Kwame Ture. VERY GOOD condition. small dark stuff on the curl. Reverse of the pinback rather rusted. Very Good .

Doc. No. 27. No printer or publisher given. [Washington DC] 1857. Disbound. 218 pages including index. Plus a fold out chart at the rear and 5 other fold out diagrams within. They consist of a diagram of Saxton's Yard Dividing Machine, Saxton's Reflecting Pyrometer and Comparator, a plan for a small building for use in weighing and measuring, a reproduction of the label used for the weights and measures, a diagram of Silberman's lever and Microscope Comparator and Borda's Thermometer and a graph of results from an experiment on the weights of different liquids at different temperatures. A senate report recounting the efforts to standardize weights and measures in the United States, as well as documenting the equipment being used to do so. Disbound in GOOD condition. Despite lacking covers the text block is solid. Minor to moderate foxing throughout. Browning/offsetting present to several of the pages. Minor wrinkling to the first page. Good .

Cochran for embezzlement. Includes a small photograph, as well as a description of his appearance, characterizing him as a fast talker, very gentlemanly in manner, very dressy etc. GOOD condition. Small hole in the upper center of the paper, with another small hole near the lower right corner. Flier appears to have been removed from a backing of some sort, resulting in the peeling off of paper on the reverse side, somewhat visible on the front. Minor toning. Two horizontal fold creases present, with a small tear at the edge of one. Good .

Designed to look like a composition notebook by John Vaughan, with illustrations by Michael Kirwin. A piece that unfolds into a poster like piece, listing a variety of events to be held at The Saint nightclub in May and the Summer of perhaps 1985. Of note is the Saint's 1st Theatre Party featuring a performance of William Hoffman's play "As Is," a work that depicted the toll of the AIDS epidemic on the gay community. The Saint, a gay nightclub, opened in 1980 in the old Fillmore East building. Founded by Bruce Mailman, the club operated for most of existence as a members' only venue, and earned a reputation for the parties held there. The club closed in 1988. VERY GOOD condition.
