Bartholomew's One Inch Map of the Lake District for Pedestrians

Edinburgh & London, John Bartholomew & Son. A thirty-two panel linen-backed folding map measuring 76 x 84 cm. The card covers are darkened and creased. A few small (and easily-repaired) holes to the map at the folds, and one small closed tear to the margin (also easily repaired). Overall, in good plus condition. Would look very nice framed. Nicely coloured with a scale of one inch to the mile. No date of publication, but it appears to be from the 1950s. .

Wraps.Small 4to,,A lot of 41 issues of this periodical relating to Baxter prints,'The Baxter Times', which describes itself as 'A Journal for Nineteeth Century Colour Print Collectors', commenced monthly publication in early 1923. It was succeeded in 1925 by 'The BP Collector and Baxter Times' in 1925 which, in late 1927, was replaced by the monthly publication 'Books Prints and Pictures'. Our offering is a lot of 41 original issues of these now sought-after publications. It commences with the premier issue of the 'Baxter Times' (Vol. 1, no. 1, June, 1923) and continues consecutively for 20 issues until Vol. II, no. 11, April, 1925, omitting only nos. 22 and 10 of Vol. I, and nos. 8 and 12 of Vol. II. Each of these issues is in very good condition. It commences again with no. 1, Vol. III, December, 1925, of the 'BP Collector and Baxter Times' which continues consecutively for 17 issues to Vol. V, no. 2, July, 1927, omitting only nos. 5 and 8 of Vol. IV. The last issue in this run is Vol. V, no. 2, July, 1927. The issues in this series show wear, and occasional loss to portions of the covers (not affecting contents). The last iteration of this journal consists of four issues of 'Books Prints and Pictures', commencing with Vol. V, no. 3. August, 1927 and running consecutively to no. 6, published November, 1927. Each of thse four issues shows somewhat less wear than the preceding numbers, but are not in quite as excellent condition as the first 20 issues.This is an essential reference source for collectors of the prints of George Baxter and his licensees including Kronheim, Mansell, Bradshaw and Blacklock.
