Inside the front board is a pastedown notice of new books and following the text is a 24 page publisher's catalogue. Early signature of 'Hugh Malcolmson / Hamilton / July 1854 / No. 28' at top of front front endpaper, below which is a small printed label which reads 'Hugh Malcolmson, M.D. / Winnipeg, Canada.' The boards are worn and the joints are starting but still intact. Uneven browning to text, and binding slightly sprung, but contents otherwise unmarked. Quite a scarce item in perfectly readable condition. First published in 1835, with authorship attributed to John Wood, this is the eleventh edition containing 'descriptions of animals, places, manners, &c. historical passages, and other instructive and entertaining information for early youth.'. .
