WODEHOUSE, P. G., Jill the Reckless
Jill the Reckless
Herbert Jenkins, London, no date. Reprint, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fair/No Dust Jacket. Green coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured decoration and titles on the front panel and backstrip. Another gem from P. G. Wodehouse. Jill Mariner is engaged to Derek Underhill, both are well to do and Derek has a title to boot! But, as in a lot of Wodehouse books, true love never runs smoothly, and in this case it's Derek's mother – Lady Underhill, and, more importantly her will. Softening, rubbing and fraying of the backstrip edges and of the book corners; the corners of the book have their underlying board visible. Rubbing to the book edges and to the book panels with some softening of the backstrip edges which is also somewhat faded. Stains to the top edge of the front panel and there is bumping to the lower book edges. Light tanning and foxing of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners name to the top edge of the front paste-down. Browning of the end pages. The top one third of the free front end page has been removed. Popular Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 314 pages, with five pages of advertisements. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1.

Jill the Reckless
London, Herbert Jenkins, c1924. Cloth. London: Herbert Jenkins, c1924. Cloth. Good Only. 7" by 5". None. A charming tale of 'Jill the Reckless', by the author P G Wodehouse. 'Jill The Reckless' is a novel by P. G. Wodehouse, first published in the United States on October 11, 1920 by George H. Doran, New York, (under the title The Little Warrior), and in the United Kingdom by Herbert Jenkins, London, on 4 July 1921. It was serialised in Collier's (US) between 10 April and 28 August 1920, in Maclean's (Canada) between 1 August and 15 November 1920, in both cases as 'The Little Warrior', and, as 'Jill the Reckless', in the Grand Magazine (UK), from September 1920 to June 1921. The heroine here, Jill Mariner, is a young woman from the lower end of the upper class. We follow her through financial disaster, a broken engagement, an awkward stay with some grasping relatives, employment as a chorus girl, and of course, the finding of true love. Previous owner's ink inscription to front free endpaper dated 1924 and ex-libris bookplate to front pastedown. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light wear to extremities and the odd mark and slight ink spot to boards. Hinges strained. Internally, binding strained with some pages loose. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered foxing and handling marks. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
