Plum to Peter: Letters of P.G. Wodehouse to his Editor Peter Schwed (Inscribed to Herbert Warren Wind)
New York, Privately Printed, 1996. Limited to only 500 copies. Bound in blue leather and stamped brightly in gilt on the front boards and the spine. This is #158 of 500 copies printed. As Schwed writes in "A Note to the Reader": "I have had only five hundred copies printed and bound, each numbered and signed by me, as below. There will be no further printigns, and unsold copies will be destroyed, along with the film and plates responsible. That means that in future years "Plum to Peter" may well become a valued rare book. This copy came from the Herbert Warren Wind estate auction with a letter of authenticity from the auction house. Mr. Wind was an excellent golfer and wrote "The Story of American Golf" and he co-authored with Ben Hogan "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf." In addition to being a devotee of the links, Mr. Wind was a fan and friend of P.G. Wodehouse. In 1981 to mark the centenary of Wodehouse's birth, Wind published "The World of P.G. Wodehouse. The gold lettering is very bright; the leather is supple. There are a few faint, light abrasions at the top of the front boards and faint impressions of book's edges on the rear boards. Light wear and rubbing to the corners. While the volume is signed by Peter Schwed, it is also inscribed to the renowned sports journalist and author Herbert Warren Wind: "To Herb Wind This very special copy for a very special gentleman, scholar, and devotee of PGW, Peter" written in blue ink on the verso of the dedication page.
