This issue includes the first three chapters of "The Claverings," by Anthony Trollope; a piece on giants, dwarfs, and fairies; the firs three chapters of "Archie Lovell," including a vampire brood, by Victorian novelist Annie Edwards, etc. GOOD condition. MISSING the aforementioned first several pages. Moderate fading to the covers, with some soiling. Rear cover with faint staining. Covers creased and worn at the corners and spine extremities, including loss of wrapper along the spine. Paper toned in the interior, with faint dampstaining affecting the last third of the magazine. Good .

Originally written as a character in a melodrama in the play L'Auberge des Adrets, the character of Macaire was transformed by the actor playing him into an archetypical con man that represented scandals in government, politics and high society in France. Due to the scandalous nature of the character, it was banned from being used in plays in 19th century France, with people charged with crimes for its portrayal (see Wikipedia). VERY GOOD book and slipcase. Minor foxing to the spine of the book. Minor toning. Minor soiling, staining and scuffing to the slipcase and folder. Very Good .
