Second edition of a Latin reference work of abbreviations in Hebrew from the Talmud. (First published in 1613). This edition is dedicated by Johannes Buxtorf filius to l'Empereur ab Oppyck and à Diest. Includes at end a bibliography of Rabbinical literature (p. 433). Printed and published by Buxtorf's son-in-law Ludwig König (1572-1641). In 1615 he took over the printing office of Waldkirch together with a large stock of Hebrew types from the previous owner, the famous Froben family. Smitskamp PO 167. Originally Johannes Buxtorf (1544-1629) anonymously published a short Hebrew dictionary entitled "Epitome radicum Hebraicarum" in Basel in 1600. A similar work but extended with Aramaic words and more references appeared in 1607 as "Epitome radicum hebraicarum et chaldaicarum". The second edition of this new version was entitled "Lexicon hebraicum et chaldaicum" and first published in 1615. See Smitskamp PO 149-154. See Fürst i, 138.

Title page restored at inner margin (no loss). Volume two only, but comprising the complete dictionary: "Ordines phonetico-alphabetici quibus sinensium litterae circumscribuntur" with 12 753 characters arranged under phonetics instead of under their radicals. Text in Chinese, Latin and French. First edition, rare.Calleri (1810 - 76) arrived at Macao in 1836 where he resided for some years and studied natural sciences and Chinese under the renowned sinologist Joachim Alfonso Gonçalves. Calleri set up his own printing press, bought a small set of types, and with the help of six natives he was able to produce this important work. A custom-made binding with gilt inscription "New Year's gift. A.S.". Partly with some minor staining but otherwise a very good copy.First edition. It's a translation of parts of the Li Ki (Book of Rites), which is one of the Five Chinese Classics and consists of texts on Chinese religious practices from the 8th to the 5th century B.C. The text contains a wealth of information of the Chinese culture from ancient time. Including descriptions of clothing, astronomy, economics, geography, history, music, crime, burials, etc. Calleri (1810-76) moved to Macau in 1836 where he studied Chinese under the renowned sinologist Joachim Alfonso Gonçalves. Second amended edition (first 1815).Campbell was a Scottish missionary who was sent to South Africa in 1812 to inspect the mission stations there after the death of John Theodosius van der Kemp, Governor of Bethelsdorp. Campbell travelled extensively throughout the country for nine months to visit the different settlements. He came in contact with various tribes, many previously unreached, and the Boer settlers.
