. Pp. (ii), 5-40. Uncut copy bound in half calf to period style, gilt spine with red gilt morocco label. First edition. For several centuries, Tangier was an important trade post due to its position at the Strait of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean. It was a British colony from 1661 when it was given to Charles II by Portugal as part of the dowry of his bride Catherine of Braganza. The first part of this work contains a letter about the colony, its contributions in the past and what opportunities may exist for the future, and in addition some general information regarding trade. The second part, ascribed to Henry Sheere, is mainly about the local British residents' situation and their prospects. However, the British were forced to withdraw and destroyed the city and its port before they left in 1684. Kress 1517. Playfair, Morocco, 271.
