"The Covered Wagon" is a 1923 American silent western released by Paramount Pictures. The film was directed by James Cruze, based on a novel by Emerson Hough about a group of pioneers traveling through the old West from Kansas to Oregon. The leads were played by J. Warren Kerrigan and Lois Wilson. Apart from the credits and details of the Chicago engagement on the first and last pages, the program describes spectacular highlights of the film and promises the audience unprecedented thrills and romance racing "with hurricane swiftness". The film was the most popular movie of 1923 in the U.S. and Canada.

A stage actor in his teens, Robert Douglass Montgomery (1907- 1966) was wisked up by MGM who, changing his name to Kent Douglass, cast the dashing young man in romantic roles opposite such leading stars as Joan Crawford and Katharine Hepburn. He starred in "Paid" and "Little Women" before the studio changed his name back again. He subsequently played roles in the "Mystery of Edwin Drood", "Harmony Lane" and "The Cat and the Canary". He enlisted and served in the Canadian Army during the war. His return to the screen was hardly noticed and he fell into obscurity. Good .
