(Brando, Marlon). Harris, Martin., A Beautiful Original Photograph of a Very Young Marlon Brando, Seated at the Telephone in Front of His Unmade Bed.
(Brando, Marlon). Harris, Martin.
A Beautiful Original Photograph of a Very Young Marlon Brando, Seated at the Telephone in Front of His Unmade Bed.
April 1950. April 1950. April 1950. April 1950. Fine. - sc A 14 inch high by 11 inch wide black & white photograph of a very young Marlon Brando seated on an old-fashioned decorated black metal waste basket in front of his unmade bed. Attired in jeans, dark t-shirt and white socks with black loafers with an old telephone cradle between his feet, Brando holds the phone's handset to his ear with his right hand, his elbows propped up on his knees. Left hand pensively touching the side of his slightly tilted head, his seductive smile brightens his face. Books piled up on an end table next to an old lamp and an open closet which reveals its contents serve as background for this tender portrait. This is one of a very few prints of a photograph by Martin Harris pulled from the original negative in the 1990's and offered for sale at a special fund-raising event. Fine. Life magazine photographer Martin Harris superbly captures that elusive animal quality which made Brando such a presence on stage and screen. The photographer Martin Harris (1908-1971) worked for "Stars and Stripes" during the second World War. He later worked for "Look", "Life", "Colliers", and "The Saturday Evening Post" among other periodicals. Two of his photographs were selected as covers for "Life" magazine during his time with that periodical. Fine .

Good. - A superb glossy 10 inch high by 8 inch wide black & white portrait of the brilliant stage & screen actor in three-quarter profile from the shoulders up. Attired in a dark turtleneck with a lighter colored jacket, Brando, his head tilted down, looks up through shadowed eyes. Inscribed and signed in full by Marlon Brando in blue ink at left of the portrait. The photograph is creased with substantial damage along the edges with has been attractively matted out with a cleverly cut gray mat. The letter "W" in "Best Wishes" has been rubbed out from wear. Despite its flaws, this is a nonetheless attractive example of a rare signed portrait tastefully matted in a silver-toned frame. Good .

Cimino, Michael., An Original Large Format Illustrated Ticket for the Preview Showing of Michael Cimino's Much Maligned Masterpiece "Heaven's Gate".
Cimino, Michael.
An Original Large Format Illustrated Ticket for the Preview Showing of Michael Cimino's Much Maligned Masterpiece "Heaven's Gate".
[New York City]: United Artists, 1980. 1980. - An 8-3/4 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide broadside printed in red & black on heavy glossy stock. "Admit One / Cinema I Theatre / 60th Street & 3rd Avenue / Tuesday, November 18, 1980 7:00 PM" is printed in black at the top of the ticket above the director's name & title "Michael Cimino's / Heaven's Gate" printed in burgundy red. Formal decorations in red frame the title which is centered above a soft-toned photographic illustration depicting Kris Kristofferson in a scene from the film. There is a crease through the center of the ticket where it has been folded. Good. This is ticket "No. 510" to the November 18th Preview for the film starring Kris Kristofferson with Christopher Walken, Isabelle Huppert, John Hurt, Sam Waterston, Brad Dourif, Joseph Cotten, and Jeff Bridges. One of the costliest films to date at the time of its release, Michael Cimino's much maligned masterpiece "Heaven's Gate" opened at the Cinema I Theatre in New York City on November 19th, 1980 to controversy and negative criticism. Much of the controversy was due to the bad press generated by the delays and cost overruns which haunted the film prior to its opening. Though many lambasted it, others thought the film a masterpiece. Shot by Vilmos Zsigmond, this lyrical ballad about the Johnson County Wars is is in some respects reminiscent of Bertolucci's "1900". Similar to Bertolucci's grandiose film, Cimino's original cut ran 5 hours and 25 minutes. That version was never to hit the screen as United Artists executives forced him to edit it down to the 3 hour and 39 minute version which opened on November 19th. That version ran for only a week at New York's Cinema I Theatre before it was pulled by Cimino. Six months later, the film was more widely released in a 2 hour and 29 minute version. Good .
