Gish, Dorothy (1898-1968). American screen & stage actress who debuted in D.W. Griffith's "An Unseen Enemy" along with her sister when she was just 14 years old.
An Original Soft Hued Photograph Portrait of the Beautiful Young Actress Dorothy Gish by the American Photographer Fred Hartsook, Signed by Dorothy Gish.
San Francisco & Los Angeles: Fred Hartsook, circa [1914]. [1914]. - An original 8-3/4 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide matte finish black & white photograph by the American celebrity photographer Fred Hartsook. The image portrays the young Dorothy Gish seated in front of a smoky studio background with fog rising from a lake. The young actress is attired in a formal white gown with a corsage. Her hands demurely rest in her lap. Signed diagonally "Sincerely / Dorothy E. Gish" in black ink within the flowing white gown. The photographer's signature is printed at lower left of the image. There is a very light vertical crease along the top. The portrait is mounted within a double mat with archival tape along the top and bottom edges of the verso. There are stains on the verso from earlier tape along the top corners and center of the bottom edge. A beautiful signed photograph. The American screen & stage actress Dorothy Elizabeth Gish (1898-1968) was also a director and writer. She made her stage debut in the stage adaptation of Ellen Wood's novel "East Lynne" at the tender age of 4. In the Spring of 1912, Mary Pickford introduced Dorothy and her older sister Lillian Gish to the American film director D.W. Griffith who took them on to perform as extras at his Biograph Studios. They so impressed Griffith that he took them to California with him to work on some of the films he was shooting. The American photographer Fred Hartsook (1876-1930) was the owner of a California Studio chain which was considered by some to be the largest photographic business in the world. Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh and President Woodrow Wilson were among Hartsook's celebrity clients, as well as Mary Pickford who had introduced the Gish sisters to D.W. Griffith. Very good .

Bankhead, Tallulah (1902-1968).
5 Large Original Vintage Photographs of the Hollywood Movie Star Tallulah Bankhead and Child Star Dickie Moore.
[1932], [1932]. - A group of five sienna-toned gelatin silver photographs of the Hollywood movie star Tallulah Bankhead pictured with the young Dickie Moore. Each photograph measures 14 inches high by 11 inch wide. Four of the images are printed on glossy buff photo paper and a fifth, a duplicate of one of the others, is printed on heavier buff stock which yields a softer hued tone. Those two identical images depict Tallulah Bankhead in a black pant suit over a white turtleneck seated on the stoop of a doorway with the young blond Dickie Moore seated in her lap. Smiling brightly, the child actor is wearing a striped shirt and shorts with leather shoes. There is a tiny tear to the top edge of the photo printed on glossy paper with a small spot of rubbing. In a third photograph, Dickie Moore is seated on the stairs of that same stoop, centered between Tallulah Bankhead and another young woman (likely also an actress), offering each a white carnation. A deeply creased piece from the bottom right corner of that photograph is ready to tear away and has been reinforced with archival linen tape from the verso. In a fourth photograph, Tallulah and Dickie are seated side by side on the stairs of a stoop, each eating an ice cream cone. There is a tiny tear to the top edge of that photo and a small spot or rubbing to the left of the image. The top right corner is deeply creased. In the fifth and last image, Tallulah is striding along a path between hedges in front of a house, holding Dickie by the hand. The boy is looking up at her as he eats his ice cream cone. The top and bottom right corners of that photograph are deeply creased. In addition, all of the photos are also slightly creased, with minor wear to the edges and slight curling though these could easily be flattened out. Good. A friend of Tallulah Bankhead's, Hollywood child actor Dickie Moore was filming "Blonde Venus" with Marlene Deitrich at the time these photographs were taken. Dickie was also frequently featured in the "Our Gang" series during that period. The lovely Hollywood movie star Tallulah Bankhead appeared in several movies between 1931 and 1932: "Tarnished Lady", "My Sin", "The Cheat", "Thunder Below", "Make Me A Star", "Devil and the Deep" and "Faithless". Good .
