World War II - Canada - Aviation - Propaganda - War Savings Certificates
A small collection of World War Two related photos and material. The contents of this lot include a b&w photo of a R.C.A.F. airplane, flying upside down (over the prairies?); a stamped postcard dated May 16, 1941, showing the R.C.A.F. Training Centre, St. Thomas, Canada; a mailed postcard (no stamp) dated June 29, 1944 showing a Mosquito aircraft, with a printed line stating that it was 'passed by press and censorship bureau'; a TLS (autosigned) from the Canadian Minister of Finance, addressed to 'Dear Madam:' urging the recipient to buy War Savings Certificates. The letter is reproduced on the inside of a folded 27 x 42 cm illustrated brochure promoting war savings certificates. The reverse side (on which the letter is printed) is full of pencilled notes and calculations, perhaps made by the recipient in an attempt to calculate how much she could contribute to the war effort. There are also five miscellanous pieces of war savings ephemera, and a Canadian Historical Association booklet, dated 1983, and written by Ruth Roach Pierson entitled 'Canadian Women and the Second World War'. All items are in good, or better, condition. Sold as a lot, only. .
