Velleman, Alexander
The R.C. A.F. As Seen from the Ground (a Worm's Eye Point of View)
Published by the author. Paperback. 4to. 'The memoirs, or memories, of a typical RCAF ground tradesman, as he travelled through the war, and after it with the RCAF.' First commercially published by Canada's Wings in 1986 (Stittsville, ON), our copy, at first glance, appears to be a proof copy. It measures 8 1/2'x 11' and is perfect bound (i.e, machine-bound without stitching or sewing the sections of the book) in card covers, with a typed title label laid-down. The title page identifies this as 'Author's Series. Special Edition. Not for sale or resale.' and has stamped underneath the number '000032'. It is boldly inscribed in ink on the lower left, the inscription being mainly indecipherable, and is signed underneath. The extra-illustrated title page appears to have been colour photocopied. The vi (6) preliminary pages of text are printed one-side only. The 385 pages of text are printed on each side of the page, and there are two Appendices. This pagination appears to differ from the commercial edition. The copy is well-illustrated by line drawings, cartoons, and photos, some from the author's personal collection. The covers are partially split at the top and bottom of the hinges, and show some soiling. The text is clean and tight. In good plus condition, overall. We do not think this is a proof copy but, rather, a copy privately produced by the author, in advance of the commercial publication, and probably circulated to friends and former colleagues for comment or amusement. .
