Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Gilt decorative borders on boards, with four blind stamped ruled lines inside the panel. Turn-ins with floral gilt roll. Board edges with gilt tooling to corners. All edges gilt. Neat previous owner bookplates on front paste downs. One gathering slightly sprung in volume one. Some light spotting to a few pages in each volume, but generally a clean set. Spine of volume three is a bit faded and worn and a bit of rubbing to the extremities of the other volumes but overall a very good and beautifully bound set.

One of 200 copies, from a total edition of 700 for England and America, on hand made paper and with the plates printed as proofs on Japanese Vellum. Each of these 200 special copies has an original print of the etching "The Lion and the Unicorn" , signed by Cameron, as the frontis and is numbered and initialed by the publishers. The etching was not issued separately. Illustrated throughout with 434 etchings, each with the original measurements, date of the plate, number printed and other general notes by Frank Rinder. Some occasasional light offsetting from the plates to the text pages opposite but generally it is faint where it occurs. Endpapers a bit browned but overall a very good clean and tidy copy in the publishers original delux binding of beige cloth on the boards with a white vellum spine, lettered and ruled in gilt. A few minor spots to the vellum but it is still clean and white and the gilt still bright and vibrant. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. A very good copy of this beautifully illustrated and well produced book.

Finely bound, with the original printed front wrapper included, by Zaehnsdorf in full dark brown morocco. boards with ten ruled line borders within two gilt ruled ones. Front board with the full title and date lettered in gilt. Spine ruled in blind and gilt. Lettered in gilt. Inner boards with ruled, dotted and wavy lined borders. Gilt binders name to the bottom of the front inner board and their circular gilt stamp to the rear inner board. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A fine copy.

Black decorative roll to the bottom of the front board. Title on gilt to the middle of the front board. Spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Rear board with blind stamped floral roll to the top and bottom. Floral decorative endpapers. Neat two line inscription to the front free endpaper. The rear endpapers have an early previous owner's name and address written in red crayon to the free endpaper and a few short lines to the pastedown. Cloth a bit rubbed to the edges and a couple of small marks to the boards but overall a very good copy. An uncommon and attractive nineteenth century edition, printed in New York by J. J. Little and Co. This 1889 new edition was issued in several different coloured decoratve cloth bindings, with no priority established.
