Jesus - an Unconventional Biography
Berkhamsted, Arthur James. 1996, First Edition. (ISBN: 0853053383). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with Very Good+ complete dustjacket. First published in France in 1994, it was highly acclaimed and a best seller for the journalist and novelist. Based on a combination of rigorous research and imagination, it deals chronologically, like a conventional biography, with the episodes of Jesus' life - birth, childhood, ministry, trial, death and resurrection. - and gives a skilled overview of the various findings, blended with almost novel-like evocations of Jesus' life and times. The author has not set out to attack cherished beliefs but rather he wants to share his journey of discovery. 2. Fine/Very Good.

EBELING, GERHARD
The Study of Theology
London, Collins. 1979, First. (ISBN: 0002157802). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with VG+ dustjacket which has fading to spine. x + 196 pages. Translated by Duane A. Priebe. A work of notable scholarship which is more than simply a compilation of material on theology, it is an expression of Ebeling's discovery of a fundamental orientation to theological study that emphasizes the connections between the various discipines. Ebeling adopts a sequential approach which begins with the New Testament, moves to the Old Testament, religion and philosophy, followed by Church history, the natural sciences, humanities, and the social sciences. Noting the contemporary crisis in orientation and method provoked by excessive fragmentation of the disciplines, he seeks connectives and relationships which provide clues to a new approach to theological study. Yet he does not deserve such neglect, and the author has written this readable biography to show Creighton's character as a Christian and a historian; his thought on the Church of England and its position in the nation; his actions and his outlook as a bishop; and, the chief problem of his episcopate, ritual controversy; the booh ends with a summing-up.
