The price-clipped dust jacket is creased and chipped with a stamp and a price in ink at the bottom of the jacket's front inner flap. xiv & 128 pages, with a map and 10 full-page photographic illustrations. Good. First edition. From the library of professional hunter Bill Ryan with a note in his hand on the front endpaper: "Bill Ryan from Pat Orr". In a tribute to Bill Ryan (c.1908-1985) in Gamecoin Magazine, Chuck Ennis writes of him: "Bill was one of Kenya's best liked and well-known professional hunters". Bill Ryan arrived in Kenya from South Africa when he was 11 years old. He quickly became a crack shot and an expert horseman. He spoke several African languages fluently. After serving in World war II h went into the saw milling business. In 1954 he took up professional hunting full time. He was eagerly sought after and escorted many celebrities throughout East Africa - including Ernest Hemingway, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper Bing Crosby and others. During the last 14 years of his life he resided in Nairobi and Malindi with his dear friend "Bimbetta", the widow of Ambassador Lincoln MacVeagh, Virginia. Good .

A 6-1/4 inch high by 9-1/8 inch wide sheet of heavy cream stock folded as a greeting card with a Christmas greeting on the front. Inside, the card is illustrated with 2 photographs, one on each panel. The first is a photograph of Queen Frederica surrounded by her children, Sofía of Spain, Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark and Constantine II of Greece. The photo is signed "Frederica R". The other panel is illustrated with a photograph of King Paul seated on his horse and it is signed "Paul R". Near fine. Paul (1901-1964) was King of Greece, reigning from April 1, 1947 until his death on March 6, 1964. Frederica of Hanover (1917-1981) was Queen of Greece from 1947 until 1964 as the wife of King Paul. Fine .

Agar, James, 1st Viscount Clifden (1734-1789). Irish peer and politician who held office as one of the joint Postmasters General of Ireland.
Fragment of an Autograph Letter Signed by the Irish Politician James Agar, 1st Viscount Clifden Addressed to Brigadier General Clarke.
December 8, 1788. 1788. - Over 45 words penned on 9-1/4 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide creamy white watermarked paper. Apparently only one page of a longer letter, likely missing an attached leaf, from what is claimed by the endorsement on the verso to be a letter of recommendation. Only the closing lines and sentiments are present. "Lady Clifden presents her best compliments to you and adds her wishes to mine to see you once more in good health & spirits in this old Castle.." Signed "Clifden". "Brig. Gen. Clarke" is penned in darker ink in a contemporary hand next to the Viscount's signature. A few letters are smudged, including the first letter in Viscount Clifden's signature. The letter is folded for mailing with ink annotations centered on the verso indicating that the letter was penned by Lord Clifden on December 8, 1788 and received nearly a year later on September 1st, 1789. The letter is additionally identified as "Recommending Mr. [ ]". There are remnants of gray paper adhering to one edge of the verso indicating that the letter was once mounted. Very good. The Irish peer & politician James Agar, 1st Viscount Clifden (1734-1789) was a Member of Parliament for Gowran. He, together with William Ponsonby, 1st Baron Ponsonby, held the post of joint Postmaster General of Ireland from 1784 to 1789. Very good .

12th July, 1853. 1853. - sc - 25 words penned on 7-1/8 inch high by 4-1/2 inch wide light blue paper with an attached leaf. There is an attractive embossed mark at top left of the sheet. Admiral Walker has penned a few brief words addressed to Richard Ford and his wife, accepting a dinner invitation. Penned by the Admiral, the note is signed in the first line: "Sir Baldwin Walker will do himself the honor of dining with.." Folded for mailing, the note is tipped from the verso of the attached leaf onto creamy stiff paper mount. Near fine.

Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker (1802-1876) was first lieutenant of the bomb ship Aetna at the attack on Morea castle during the Morea expedition. By special permission of the admiralty, he accepted a command in the Turkish Navy in 1838 where he was known as Walker Bey and subsequently as Yavir Pasha. He commanded the Turkish squadron which bombarded Acre in November of 1840 and was awarded the designation of Knight Commander of the Bath, the Austrian Order of the Iron Crown (2nd class), the Russian Order of St. Anna and the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle. Returning to England, he was appointed Surveyor of the Navy, a position he held from 1848 to 1861, and later made 1st baronet Wake Walker, of Oakley House. He was appointed to several commands and vice-admiralty before being promoted to Admiral in 1870.

From the autograph collection of Mrs. Mary Ford, widow of Richard Ford who wrote the popular "Handbook for Travellers in Spain". Very good .
