Old Point Lace and How to Copy It
London, Chatto and Windus 1878 21pp, 17 fold-out illustrations/patterns, some in colour, 36pp publishers' notices. 19x14, decorated green cloth spine and boards with illustrated paste on label. Spine somewhat rubbed, boards a bit used and bumped at corners, contents lightly foxed but intact, binding firm. Rarely found intact, short but highly attractive work.

Tokyo, Shogakukan 1991 155pp, 258 illustrations, many in colour, text in Japanese. 31x23, stiff cover, dw. Very good in slightly edge rubbed dw. This edition of the Japanese art journal focuses on portraits from around 1600 to the end of the Edo period in 1868. As well as the formal, there are examples of the playful and informal - a rather lovely image of a women's bathhouse with a male servant trying to peek through a window is one.

Famous survey of musical artwork, much dominated by the 1970s and the height of prog. Perhaps the best illustration of how thing have moved on since it was published is the use of the well-known Blind Faith album cover as the frontispiece: described here as a 'distillation of the mystic symbolism of the psychedlic era', now its uncomfortable sexualisation of a child is used mostly in lists of 'most shocking' album sleeves.
