He was originally created by Mary Tourtel, in order to win sales for the Daily Express from its rivals, the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail. In 1935, the stories were taken over by Alfred Bestall, who had previously worked for 'Punch&apos.Including 'Rupert and Uncle Bruno', 'Rupert, Bill, and the Bluebells', 'Rupert and the Silver Trowel', 'Rupert and the Iceberg', 'Rupert and the Air Smugglers', 'Rupert's Marvellous Bat', 'Rupert and the Pedlar', and 'Rupert and King Frost&apos.Collated, lacking endpapers. All other pages are present. In the original publisher's paper covered boards, rebacked with the original boards and spine restored. Externally, generally smart. Loss and age-tnoing to the backstrip. Boards are a little rubbed with some light marks. Minor bumping to the extremities. Lacking the endpapers. Ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the occasional spot and handling mark. Offsetting to the title page.
