This history is a monumental work of natural history, and has been largely applauded for its woodcuts. Illustrated with eleven colour plates. Illustrated and written by Thomas Bewick. Bewick was the author of natural history works, including 'A General History of Quadrupeds', and an engraver. He was apprenticed and eventually became the partner to Ralph Beilby. Collated, bound without one plate. In a quarter calf binding with paper to the boards. Tail of the spine is lifting. Bumping and loss to the extremities and to the head of the spine. Some light marks to the boards. Rubbing to the spine. Small cracks to the head of the joints. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Internally, generally firmly bound.
