Very impressive selection of the most of important of Kirchner's drawings, recognising his place as one of the most important of the German Expressionists. After years of physical and mental illness, Kirchner committed suicide in 1938, not long after 32 of his works were included in the Nazi's 'Degenerate Art' exhibition.

London, Faber and Faber (1925 in German) 1953 62pp, bw illustrations throughout 26x19, cloth Cloth slightly discoloured, top edge dusty, contents very good. Based on Klee's course at the Bauhaus, the Sketchbook was originally handwritten notes. After being edited by Gropius and designed by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy it was published as one of the Bauhaus Student Manuals. This first English edition was translated by Sibyl Moholy-Nagy, and preserves the original layout.
