Webb and Bower, Exeter, 1982, 1st edn., 192pp, 8pp coloured ills., half tone ills. and facsimiles in text, pictorial endpapers, black cloth lettered in gilt at spine, coloured decorative head and tail bands, coloured pictorial dustwrapper, the author joined the Canadian Provost Corps in 1940 and was soon sent to England where he spent months in training, on manoeuvres and escorting visiting 'brass' in southern England. On requesting a transfer away from the boredom he was offered the choice of officer training or a special manoeuvre. Choosing the latter it turned out to be the raid on Dieppe where he was captured and spent three years in Stalag IXC, in the heart of Germany near Lepzig, where he kept a diary now expanded and illustrated from contemporary camp files, photographs, maps and other material looted after liberation, small crossed through ownership stamp on front pastedown, dustrapper: a little sunned at edges, very good plus in a very good plus dustwrapper,

Hutchinson, London, 1960, 1st edn., 222pp, black cloth lettered in gilt and light blue at spine, col'd dustwrapper by Patricia Davey, after giving refuge to a British airman in 1943 Brussels the author and her husband were arrested by the Gestapo. Helene Jeanty feigned madness to try and save her husband who had been sentenced to death and spent the next two years in German prisons and asylums before release in March 1945. After her return to Brussels she joined the staff of the Judge Advocate-General's department of the War Office in London and returned to Germany where she was able to help establish the innocence of a number of suspected 'war criminals' that she had met whilst a prisoner. Her work in aiding post-war German refugees continued in 1947 with the World Council of Churches, work which later still she continued in her own right, faintly foxed at edges, dustwrapper lightly rubbed at tips, one short closed edge tear, lightly soiled, very good plus in a very good dustwrapper,
