Chance Witness. An Outsider's Life in Politics. (Signed).
London: Viking, 2002. 0670894400. 1st edition. "Matthew Parris is part participant, part bystander. He observes. In this candid autobiography, he describes what it was like to be so close to the centre yet remain an outsider. He writes about his extraordinarily itinerant childhood, his rejection of MI6 and London Transport's rejection of him, and the calamitous end to his spell working in Mrs Thatcher's office. And of course he writes of politics and politicians, from Mrs Thatcher and Chris Patten to Peter Mandelson, Tony Blair and Michael Portillo. The result is a surprising and eccentric story, sometimes funny and always entertaining.." Blue boards, dustwrapper slightly sunned to spine. VG/G+.
