MALMÉN, PER:
Mönster för marmormålning (Patterns of faux marbling painting). Part one (all publ.). Stockholm, Gustaf Chelius, 1895.
. Large folio. (39 x 54 cm). Pp. (4). With ten lithographed plates of different kinds of marbles. Text leaves with some marginal tears, some plates with a few spots in margins and some plates with tears at the outer margins but overall a very good copy. Original half cloth on grey boards, cotton ties, lightly rubbed. First and only edition of this scarce book, the first of its kind in Sweden. Per Malmén studied in Paris in the 1870s and became a distinguished art marbling painter. It is rumoured that he executed several marbling works at the Louvre, but this has not been proven, mainly because the artists did not sign their works at the time. This impressive manual was used at the Technical School in Stockholm where Malmén taught for many years. The plates depict several kinds of marbles titled: Vert de Mer, Jaune de Sienne, Chateau-Landon Rance, St. Anne, Marbre de Kolmården Granit, Portor, Bleu Fleurl Rance and Breche Violette. The text instructs how to create various types of marbling patterns. Ref.: Fredrik Thörnqvist: "Marmoristen & Målarmästaren Per Malmén" 2011.
