A tight, pristine facsimile of the 1930 first edition of this history of the creation of sculptor Leonard Crunelle's moving statue of Lincoln, erected in Freeport in 1929 on the 71st anniversary of the Lincoln-Douglas debate held there -- and here reprinted for the 130th anniversary of that same event. From the personal collection of another noted sculptor with a Freeport presence, Lily Tolpo (born 1917), whose life-size statues depicting Lincoln and Douglas debating was unveiled on the site of that event in 1992 on the 134th anniversary. Laid into this copy is a 5" X 3" index card with Lincoln notes pencilled by Tolpo's husband, the noted Lincoln sculptor Carl Tolpo (1901-76), a fine 5" X 7" black and white photograph of Crunelle's Lincoln statue, and a program and large white silk bookmark for the 142nd anniversary rededication ceremonies held in 2000. Personal copy of noted sculptor Lily Tolpo (born 1917), who created several Lincoln statues, including the life-size Lincoln and Douglas debate monument unveiled in Freeport in 1992 on the 134th anniversary of that event (and whose husband, Carl Tolpo, 1901-76, was a famed Lincoln sculptor). Tipped to the front flyleaf are two 5" X 3" heavy stock cards with Tolpo's inked notes about creating a limited edition of this statue, funding ideas, marketing notions (including Dave Thomas of "Wendy's" fame), etc. MONAGHAN 3229. .

Lindsay, 1p, 4½" X 7½", Washington, DC, 2 February 1934. Near fine. Beneath a blind-embossed English crest, the ambassador notes "I have much pleasure in complying with your request for my autograph," signing boldly in black ink. Sir Ronald Lindsay (1877-1945) was a highly-regarded English career diplomat who served as Ambassador to Turkey (1925-26), to Germany (1926-28) and to the United States (1930-39). .
