Damp marking does not affect inside at all,nor the front cover One marginal tear without loss a few slight finger marks & original staples a bit rusty but all pages attached except for bottom 1" split. Two captions a bit cropped it sounds wornse than it looks,but a large popular shape book which is often in poor condition or with torn pages due to its size. Here in acceptable good condition. This is NOT a facsimile reproduction, this is the genuine Father Tuck series, Number 1756.

Presentation inscription "Presented to (first name illegible) Sears by Mrs. Danl. B. Lincoln Dec.25 1869". *One of the early Aunt Louisa series with rather pious moral verses but charming Victorian scenes of family gatherings.

Muir . sm.4to blue gilt and silver pictorial cloth (corners somewhat worn/newer cloth spine/lower cover marked) All Edges Gilt.Titlepage + contents leaf + half title to each of the stories +6pp +6pp +10pp +10pp + 24 color plates + blank guard sheets protecting the plates though there is sometimes feint offsetting of the plates onto these guard sheets - but that is partly what they are there for.The first guard has offsetting of titlepage but also on the recto feint offsetting of the plate of Eva comforting a weeping Topsy. This plate is present but is wrongly bound in at the end of the Story of Eva & Topsy. Inner hinges are strengthened, there is slight paper tanning, some, mostly marginal,tears but without loss of paper. Contains The Children's Garden + The Story of a Goat + The New Pet + The Story of Eva and Topsy which is an extract from Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe on the slave trade. Handsome front cover shows scenes from all the stories within in gilt,silver and black. Owner's name Eddie Baggott Dec 25th 1881.

Illustrated to each page with 12 pages neatly gone over with clean water thus the hidden colours have been exposed but without any "running" of colors or stai. 177x158mm green card with peg doll & teddy-bear dancing to recorder playing child. Inside of both covers is black/white illustrated poem. First page with instuctions for a practice painting (neatly done), other pages show toys in a boat, circus elephant act, Japanese tea ceremony etc. Hidden figures in 4 of the pictures. All 12 are very neatly done without any water residue stains. *Date of publication suggested by the original cataloguer of the Opie Collection. The publisher's name Alf Cooke appears in a tiny symbol at foot of inside back cover. Alf Cooke was an important producer of playing cards & card games in the UK during the period 1920-1970.
