BELTRAN, Felipe Romero
Felipe Romero Beltrán - Magdalena.
Madrid, Ediciones Anómalas / Comunidad de Madrid, 2020. 28.5 x 23 cm. [120] pp. Hardcover with dustjacket. Illustrated in colour. - Text in English and Spanish. - Felipe Romero Beltrán (b. Bogotá, Colombia.1992) is a documentary photographer. - The River Magdalena, named after Mary Magdalene, is the most important river in Colombia. Its source is the Andes Mountains, at an altitude of 3,650 metres, from where it crosses the country covering 1,600 kilometres before flowing into the Caribbean Sea. [...] Since the beginning of the armed conflict in the sixties, the river has also been spewing out the bodies of murdered people. Guerrillas, paramilitary forces and local mafias would throw the victims' corpses into the Magdalena to eliminate all traces of evidence. Political tensions and drug trafficking hastened a war with a death toll of over two hundred thousand. - New copy

BEN-SHALOM, Noa
Hush | Noa Ben-shalom. [New].
Montreal, Sternthal, 2015. 24 x 17 cm. 312 pp. Softcover. Profusely illustrated in b/w and colour. - Text in Arabic, English and Hebrew. - This photobook tells the story of a society living through a recurring loop of violent outbursts, in which, time and again, life is shattered into pieces and reconstructed.

- Photographer Noa Ben-Shalom chooses not to picture the more obvious scenes of direct violence, instead bringing into focus the subtle way the apparently never-ending conflict between Israel and Palestine has permeated all aspects of life in the two regions - almost without being noticed. Through poignant personal correspondence (in English, Arabic, and Hebrew) and images gathered between 2000-2014, Ben-Shalom enables quiet introspection within a landscape in which the absurd has become the norm. - New copy

BERKERS, Angeniet
Angeniet Berkers: Lebensborn - Birth Politics in the Third Reich.
The Eriskay Connection, 2024. 29 x 21 cm. 271 pp. Clothbound. Illustrated in b/w and colour. - On 12 December 1935, a programme was started in Germany to provide the Third Reich with a new generation of leaders: Lebensborn (Source of Life). SS officers were encouraged to reproduce as much as possible, including out of wedlock. In several Lebensborn homes scattered across West-Europe, (unmarried) women could give birth if they met the requirements of the Aryan race. After the war, the children from these homes and families were often stigmatised, mistreated, and abused. Many grew up with secrets. Lebensborn tells the compelling story of this particular history, focusing on the major events, but especially on the personal consequences for those involved. - New copy
