New York: Doubleday & Company, 1962. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. Illustrated by Ingri & Edgar Parin D'Aulaire. B&W and Color Illustrations; Stated First Edition. This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Good dust jacket. The book covers are generally clean and bright, but there is a strip of ground-in dirt to both front and rear bottom panel edges. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has sevearl edge tears, nicks, spots of rubbing, one medium sized chip to the top rear panel and one chip to the bottom rear spine joint. There is some black residue to the very edges of the dust jacket (likely from an old dust jacket cover that used a dark tinted glue). "Ingri d'Aulaire (December 27, 1904 – October 24, 1980) and Edgar Parin d'Aulaire (September 30, 1898 – May 1, 1986) were American writers and illustrators of children's books who worked primarily as a team, completing almost all of their well-known works together. The couple immigrated to the United States from Europe and worked on books that focused on history such as Abraham Lincoln, which won the 1940 Caldecott Medal. They were part of the group of immigrant artists composed of Feodor Rojankovsky, Roger Duvoisin, Ludwig Bemelmans, Miska Petersham and Tibor Gergely, who helped shape the Golden Age of picture books in mid-twentieth-century America." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ in Good dust jacket .
