Her company, Mary Engelbreit Co, was founded in 1982. It was located in Webster Groves, Missouri and then was moved to a former Greek Orthodox church in University City, Missouri in 1994. L'ENGLE, MADELEINE
The Sphinx at Dawn Two Stories
Harpercollins Childrens Books, 1989. 1st Paperback Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. ISBN: 0062505025. Signed edition. This copy has been signed, with a short inscription, by the author on the half title page. This is a trade paperback book. The book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued thus without a dust jacket. The front cover of the book has started to tone just a bit. The text pages are clean and bright. "Soon after winning the Newbery Medal for her 1962 "junior novel" A Wrinkle in Time, L'Engle discussed children's books in The New York Times Book Review. The writer of a good children's book, she observed, may need to return to the "intuitive understanding of his own childhood," being childlike although not childish. She claimed, "It's often possible to make demands of a child that couldn't be made of an adult... A child will often understand scientific concepts that would baffle an adult. This is because he can understand with a leap of the imagination that is denied the grown-up who has acquired the little knowledge that is a dangerous thing." Of philosophy, etc, as well as science, "the child will come to it with an open mind, whereas many adults come closed to an open book. This is one reason so many writers turn to fantasy (which children claim as their own) when they have something important and difficult to say." " (from Wikipedia); Signed by Author. Very Good+ .

New York: Golden Press, 1958. Trade Edition. Hardcover. Illustrated by Michael Arens. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good- dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. The book covers are clean and bright. The text pages are clean, but noticeably toned. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright, but has several very small edge nicks to the top front cover, some light wear and nicking to the spine ends and a one inch wrinkled tear with associated rubbing and wear to the top rear edge. "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin is an American children's television series in the Western genre that aired from October 1954 to May 1959 on the ABC television network. In all, 164 episodes aired. The show starred Lee Aaker as Rusty, a boy orphaned in an Indian raid, who was being raised by the soldiers at a US Cavalry post known as Fort Apache. Rusty and his German shepherd dog, Rin Tin Tin, help the soldiers to establish order in the American West. James E. Brown appeared as Lieutenant Ripley "Rip" Masters. Co-stars included Joe Sawyer as Sergeant Biff O'Hara and Rand Brooks as Corporal Randy Boone. The character of Rin Tin Tin was named after Rin Tin Tin, a legendary screen dog of the 1920s and 30s. The character was ostensibly played by Rin Tin Tin IV, who was either a descendant or related to the original dog. However, due to Rin Tin Tin IV's poor screen performance, the character was mostly performed by an unrelated dog, Flame Jr. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket .
