He succeeded to the peerage in 1802 and became a Tory MP in 1807, eventually becoming Foreign Secretary in 1830, a post which he held for many years, and during many great international events and upheavals. He became prime minister in 1855. In all, during his political career, he was elected to sit in 17 parliaments; serving four monarchs: George III, George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. All steel engravings present, save for one plate in vol. II: 'The Empress of the French'. All are protected by tissue guard. A very robust, handsome, set on the shelf. Ill.: steel engravings.
