The first edition thus edited by Anne Olivier Bell of the diaries by Virginia Woolf. Three volumes of five: volume I from 1915-1919; volume II from 1920-1924; volume V from 1936-1941. With an introduction by Quentin Bell. Complete with the original dust wrappers, two unclipped, one price-clipped to volume II with pricing still present £10.50 to sticker applied to the front fly leaf.  Virginia Woolf was one of the most prominent authors in the twentieth century modernist movement, and a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. She was one of the founding members of the prominent artistic and literary Bloomsbury Group. Her diaries provide a unique insight into intellectual London and reflections on the struggles in Virginia's life, as well as on her progress as a writer, on her relationship with Leonard Woolf, and on her final years before her suicide in 1941. In the original publisher's full cloth bindings. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Previous ownership inscription to the verso front free endpaper of vol. V, dated 1984. Richard Garnett's bookplate to the front pastedown of vol. I. The dust wrapper is unclipped and excellent with minor shelf wear only, light sunning to the spine. The dust wrapper to vol. II only is price clipped, pricing applied on a sticker to the front fly leaf, with some minor tidemark internally to the wraps, not affecting the externals. Internally, firmly bound. light minor spotting to the fore edge, not affecting the pages which are otherwise bright and clean. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed.
