William Makepeace Thackeray is best known for his satirical works looking at English society, most especially for 'Vanity Fair&apos. He tended to be quite savage in his attacks on society, publishing under various pseudonyms in his youth to avoid personal criticism. With a frontispiece, one plate, and numerous in-text illustrations. With sixteen pages of publisher's adverts to the rear dated November 1862. With a half-title. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the joints. Minor fading to the spine and light marks to the boards. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, binding is straind in places.
