No Place, No publisher. Soft Cover. World War II Photo Album from a US Soldier, Joseph F. Strokoskas, apparently serving in the Philippines. Oblong quarto format. Contains about 20 postcards, some color illustrated, some real photo, depicting locations in Alabama, Mississippi, Chicago and San Francisco; about 50 or so black and white photos of various sizes and formats; and various pieces of ephemera, from beer labels (from Australia), money and military passes. The photos range from posed photos of the subject, photos of barracks, several of the departure of a 3 star (General?) on a plane, photo of presumed Japanese prisoners, a dead (Japanese?) soldier, a downed Japanese plane, photo of an anti-aircraft post, to photos of the residents of the Philippines, etc. GOOD condition. Covers creased, with old tape repairs. General fading, minor soiling and scuffing. Some pages chipped along the extremities. One photo dampstained and bearing surface loss. Good/No Jacket.

Tabloid newspaper format. 4 pp. With an 8 ½ by 11 inch sheet of paper stapled to the front cover, providing a news flash on Patrick Chenoweth, reprinting a New York Times article declaring him free. A few black and white illustrations. A newsletter issued by the United States Servicemen's Fund, an organization created to promote free speech in the US military. It organized events and exhibits in protest of the Vietnam War and supported many GI underground publications. This issue with an article the court-martial proceedings against 8 of released POWs, indicating that those against the war, were being held by the US military and were accused of misconduct while in a North Vietnamese prison camp. Another article looks at the case of Airman Frederick Stubbs, a Black soldier charged with fighting and sent to a military "reeducation camp." The article alleges that while there, he was framed for a fight, and now faces a court martial and hard labor, with the piece alluding to racism in the US Armed Forces. A short piece discusses the bombing of a bookstore by a member of a white supremacist group. The store had hosted a group of Black soldiers against the Vietnam War. GOOD+ condition. Two memorial publications/proceedings from The Society of Colonial Wars in the District of Columbia bound between two pamphlets. All appear to be bound with their original wraps. These tracts are primarily historical addresses containing biographical and history on George Washington, Alexander R. Shepherd, Colonel Ninian Beall, Colonel Joseph Belt and Ainsworth Spofford. Alexander R. Shepherd was governor of the District of Columbia from 1873-74, and is sometimes called 'The father of Modern Washington,' and considered to have been an influential boss in the city(Wikipedia). 'Smallwood's Immortals' chronicles an early battle in the Revolutionary War, when a small group of troops from Maryland engaged a larger British force. Colonel Ninian Beall was an early settler in Maryland, having previously fought for the Scotch-English army and subsequently fighting Native American tribe of the Susquehannah. Colonel Joseph Belt was a colonel during the French and Indian War and a patentee of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Ainsworth Rand Spofford was the sixth librarian of congress of the United States. The piece on his life, containing work by several authors, also contains a chronological list of his writings. GOOD condition, slightly ex-library, with a bookplate on the inside cover. Pamphlets all bound in olive cloth. Minor soiling, general fading, and a few faint stains to the cloth. Extremities with moderate bumping and scuffing. Pamphlets with general toning to the paper. A few with minor pencil notes, marginalia and underlining. Minor scattered soiling and very minor foxing. Some of the wraps with some chipping and wear along the extremities, as well as minor notations/names to the covers. Good/No Jacket.
