. Postersize, about A-3, enlarged woodcut printed in green with Latin and Dutch texts by Hoogewerff . Latin at the top: Silentium omni strepitu maius. Dutch at the bottom: De kwakerschaar doorrijt den zomernacht om't zeerst; toch welft de stilte wijd,roerloos, en overheerscht. Godefridus Johannes Hoogewerff (Amersfoort, June 20, 1884 - Florence, March 25, 1963) was a Dutch art historian and professor at Utrecht University. In 1932 he published under the pseudonym "A.E. Drijfhout" together with graphic artist M.C. Escher, with which he very was a friend, the booklet "XXIV emblemata dat zijn zinne-beelden", with proverbs written by him (in Latin) and poems (in Dutch) with prints (woodcuts) by Escher. He made sure that Escher, whom he admired but who had not yet gained any fame at the time, got this through organizing exhibitions and making contacts. we can send a photograph.

. Oxford, Bruno Cassirer, 1957, twenty-five tipped-in black and white plates. folio, number 62 of a limited edition of 500 copies. In a wonderful contemporary full red crushed full morocco binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe and described as a special copy on the last page In a matching slip case, also quarter bound (spine and edges) in red morocco . All edges gilt. the spine of teh slip case very slightly sunned. Marcel Frishman was born in 1900 in Lodz and died in 1952. He studied at the Berlin Academy in the early 1920s under Hans Meid and in 1926 joined the staff of the political and satirical weekly 'Simplicissimus' as a cartoonist. When the magazine was taken over by the Nazis in 1933, he was compelled to leave Germany, working in Copenhagen and then, in 1937, Australia where he remained for 13 years, working in factories. In 1950 he returned to Europe with deteriorating health to continue his work.
