Leoshko, Janice, Bodhgaya, the Site of Enlightenment
Leoshko, Janice
Bodhgaya, the Site of Enlightenment
Bombay, Marg Publications, 1988. Hardcover. Beige cloth boards with burgundy lettering on front cover and spine; glossy gold dust jacket with burgundy lettering and color illustration; viii, 156 pp; color illustrated title pages; profusely illustrated throughout in color and bw. "The numerous sculptures and structures at Bodhgaya, documenting centuries of artistic patronage, merit attention as records of the visual expressions appropriate to this important site. These works also exerted significant influence upon the creation of Buddhist art outside India, as pilgrims are known to have taken replicas or records of the images and buildings that they saw at Bodhgaya in order to re-create them in their own lands. In this volume essays discuss the art from Bodhgaya, including sculptures, votive objects and the most important structure at the site, the Mahabodhi temple. One essay explores the relationship between Bodhgaya adn the nearby Hindu pilgrimage site of Gaya, while others address the importance of Bodhgaya and its art in Sri Lanka, South-east Asia, Nepal and Tibet."- dust jacket description. VG/VG (previous owner's bookplate on end papers, light shelfwear to boards and dj. Pages are crisp and clean.) .

The Secret South: From Cold War Perspective to Global South in Museum Collection
Taipei, Taiwan, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2020. Softcover. black & white illustrated wraps w/ white & black illustrated jacket. 243 pgs w/ bw & color illustrations. Dust-jacket unfolds into a poster sized map. Illustrated throughout. Text in English and Chinese. "Penetrating through or surpassing certain colossal or minute historical occurrences, the history behind institutional collection is cross-examined, allowing the artworks to serve as the aesthetic evidence and also the perceptual mediators where time-relevant messages are transmitted. Throughout this task, the key figure behind is the exhibition design; the curator and designer, Takamori Nobuoand Lin Chih Feng, together with myself, have jointly devised the exhibition context, which is designed to untie the aesthetic against a "white box" backdrop. The intention is to re-contextualize how history is experienced and seen. The same mechanism for interaction is also applied to the exhibition catalogue, which is designed in collaboration with designer Lin Guan Ming. Finally, we hope to provide a way to imagine and to listen for the sounds that we think we've heard before but perhaps never listened to"--Taipei Fine Arts Museum Website.
