Ort operated a successful York County business selling aviation merchandise, aircraft parts and war surplus materials. Nevertheless, Karl Ort became York’s aviation pioneer years before that business. He was a WWI trained pilot that barnstormed up and down the eastern seaboard. Karl Ort was born in York on December 19, 1896 and he was the thirteenth pilot licensed in Pennsylvania. The barnstorming led to a string of flying related concerns, prior to the founding of his mail order aviation business. That establishment commenced in January of 1930 when Karl Ort attended an auction held at the Philadelphia Navy Yard; where he was the winning bidder on large quantities of government surplus aviation equipment. The cover of the 1935 KARL ORT Mail Order Catalog contained the slogan “You Can Bank on Karl Ort for Value. ” Karl operated his business in the city of York, near his boyhood home, until a 1947 fire destroyed his warehouse in the 600 block of West Poplar Street. "(Central York High School blog post). Fair .

PIPER AIRCRAFT, CORPORATION, Now You Can Learn to Fly So Easily
PIPER AIRCRAFT, CORPORATION
Now You Can Learn to Fly So Easily
Vero Beach, FL: Piper Aircraft, Corporation, 1951. Other. Color Illustrations; C1951. This is a small format (approx. 4" x 6" folded) tri-fold brochure. The brochure is in Very Good condition. There's a aviation sales name and address ink stamped on the front cover of the brochure. There are several vertical creases to the brochure (separate from the tri-fold) , some edge wear, rubbing and wrinkling. This brochure advertizes Piper's Tri-Pacer plane for busy executives tu use the skies for their commutes instead of cars. "The Piper PA-20 Pacer was originally designed as a tailwheel aircraft and thus had somewhat limited forward visibility on the ground and more demanding ground-handling characteristics. To help introduce more pilots to easier, safer flying, from February 1951, Piper introduced the PA-22 Tri-Pacer with a nosewheel instead of the tailwheel landing gear. Both the Pacer and the Tri-Pacer belong to a sub-group of Piper aircraft called "Short Wing Pipers." Additionally, the Tri-Pacer offered higher-powered engine options in the form of 150 hp (112 kW) and 160 HP (120 kW) engines, whereas the largest engine available to the original Pacer had an output of 135 hp (100 kW). At the time the tricycle undercarriage became a popular preference and 1953 saw the PA-22 Tri-Pacer outsell the Pacer by a ratio of six to one. Due to the geometry of the nosewheel installation it is sometimes called the "Flying Milk Stool"." (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

Including design and production, at over $3 billion it was the single most expensive weapons project in World War II, exceeding the $1.9 billion cost of the Manhattan Project—using the value of dollars in 1945. Innovations introduced included a pressurized cabin, dual-wheeled, tricycle landing gear, and an analog computer-controlled fire-control system directing four remote machine gun turrets that could be operated by a single gunner and a fire-control officer. A manned tail gun installation was semi-remote." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .

The program is folded in half horizontally. The program has some light generalized toning to the edges. The text pages are generally clean and bright. "Watsonville is a small town, and this fly-in and air show has a small town feel, but it's a big event. It has a nostalgic feel... The feel of a county fair... The seating is on hay bales located in prime viewing areas. You can bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. (If you spring for an upgrade to what they call the "Flight Deck Club" or are invited by a sponsor, there will be seating in the sponsor pavilions. ) It's really a Saturday/Sunday event, but sometimes we've gone on Friday afternoon to watch arrivals. It's been a major antique-airplanes event at the Watsonville airport since 1964.Through the years it grew from a small, grass roots event to one of the largest fly-ins on the west coast.... It became known primarily for a world-class exhibit of antique aircraft. " (from Antique - Airplanes website). Very Good .

BOSH STACK ASSOCIATES PUBLIC RELATIONS, Press Release for the Umbaugh Model 18 (Gyroplane)
BOSH STACK ASSOCIATES PUBLIC RELATIONS
Press Release for the Umbaugh Model 18 (Gyroplane)
New York: Bosh Stack Associates, 1958. Other. B&W Illustrations; This is a press release with an 8" x 10" black and white photograph and typed sheet explaining all the new features making this gyroplane unique and noteworthy. The photograph is in Very Good+ condition. The accompanying typed sheet has some ground in dirt and a couple of smallish spots of discoloration. "1960: The first FAA certificated gyroplane. It is true that the Pitcairn aircraft recieved a production certificate but that was done under the CAA. The Umbaugh Company of the United States in collaberation with the Fairchild Airplane Company began development of this two-place gyroplane in 1960. Umbaugh & Fairchild did not get very far into their venture as very few were built following the first two protytpes. The two companies spent too much on research and development and the basic manufacturing of the design was costly. A lot of manhours went into producing the distinctive triple tail and attachment booms. The gyro featured jump takeoff capability and was powered by a Lycoming o360 of 180hp and two-position propeller. A unique triple tail design attached by twin booms to the fuselage quickly identify this gyroplane. A rotor diameter of 35ft and fuselage length of 21ft 4 in and a height of 10ft puts this gyro above a light category gyroplane (as far as we homebuilders are concerned). She can fly at 125 mph with a fully enclosed aluminum cabin and structure, with a service ceiling of 15,000ft and range of 350 miles. " (from gyroplane passion website). Very Good+ .
