[Haarlem, Johan Enschedé], 1768, octavo leaves, mostly in gatherings of four leaves, hardcover, paper binding, no headbands, mostly unnumbered pages: 104 pp. + 16 pp., apart from the introduction and the price list rectos printed only, covers worn, but otherwise very good copy, beautiful printwork, good quality paper, engraved frontispiece (in honour of printing and famous type makers: F. Jelgersma invent, A. van der Laan fecit), the frontispiece has a visible repair and hinges on the inside front cover by a strip of glue, typographical and decorated titlepage (slightly damaged near the spine) with printer's mark referring to the art of printing and bookmaking (labore et diligentia: A. van der Laan inv. et fec. 1741), etched portraits of Joannes Enschede (C. v, Noorde ad viv. del. & fe. 1768), Laurentio Joannis F. (C.v.N.) and Hadr. Junio (C. v. N. f.), etched portrait of Joan Michael Fleischman (C. v. Noorde f. 1769, loose page), engraving showing the Haarlem statue of Laurens Jansz. Koster (A. van der Laan sculp. 1740), fold out etching showing men at work in the Johan Enschedé typefoundry (C. v. Noord, ad Viv. del. et Fe. 1768). The Enschedé type specimens of 1768 and 1773, Amsterdam, De Buitenkant, 1993 (annotated facsimile edition).l A printed overview to showcase printing types (letterproef) available from the famous Dutch (Haarlem based) typefoundry Johan Enschedé. Including "Oude Hollandsche Letteren, zynde eerstelingen der boek-drukkonst (...)", a price list and the supplement "Vermeerdering van meest nieuw gesnedene letteren in de Haarlemsche Letter-Gierery van Johannes Enschedé. Zedert 1768-1773". Most showcased printing types are cut by J.M. Fleischman (1701-1768). He was born in Germany but travelled around Europe to gain experience concerning typemaking. He settled in Holland and left his collection of types to Johan Enschedé upon his death in 1768. Johan Enschedé published this overview of type specimens that same year. In the introduction Enschedé states that since the invention of printing with moveable type, there has been no other type cutter as exceptionally skillful as Fleischman. The overview contains Roman, cursive, Gothic, Hebrew, Syrian, Greek, Arabic, Malaysian and Armenian types and all sorts of decorative elements. Some leaves have been added outside the collation. This copy lacks "Canon Hebreeuwsch", but "Text Armenisch" is present.

[Haarlem, Johan Enschedé], 1768, mostly in gatherings of four leaves, hardcover, cardboard binding with cloth coverd spine and marbled paper, unnumbered pages: main title page with a pinter's mark referring to the art of printing and bookmaking (labore et diligentia: A. van der Laan inv. et fec. 1741), etched portrait of Joannes Enschede (C.v.Noorde, ad Viv. del. & Fe. 1768), introduction 32 pages, 60 pages showcasing different printing types (printed on one side), second titlepage: "Oude Hollandsche Letteren zynde eerstelingen der boek-drukkonst (...)", followed by 11 more pages showcasing different printing types (also printed on one side), including an engraving of the Haarlem statue of Laurens Coster (A. van der Laan sculp. 1740).Worn covers with the front board nearly loose, fragile sewing: some pages are loose or loosening, there are obvious repairs where paper has been pasted in to reinforce weak spots, some sign of foxing, a few waterstains and some notes in pencil. Content is incomplete. Textpages and fonts: Without "Augustyn Duits No. 1", "Mediaan Duits No.1", "Text Armenisch", "Op Hout geslagene Figuur-Letteren", "Vervolg dubbele Mediaan", "Mediaan Taroté", "Vervolg van Descendiaan", "Vervolg van Galjart", "Canon Hebreeuwsch", "Lyst der pryzen" (8 pp.) and without "Vermeerdering van de meest nieuwe gesnedene letteren in de Haarlemsche Letter-Gietery van Johannes Enschedé, Zedert 1768-1773" (16 pp.). NB: Of the page "Dubbele Mediaan Grieksche Capitalen" the top half has been torn out and some pages appear in a different order compared to other copies. Illustrations: without frontispiece, without the portraits of Laurentio Joannis, Hadr. Junio. and Joan Michael Fleischman and without the fold-out engraving depicting the typefoundry.
