A scene from Scarron's 'Le Roman Comique' (book II, chapter 7): in a bedroom with canopy bed and tapestry on the wall, people freeing a man from the chest he was locked into. From of a set of sixteen plates representing scenes from Scarron's 'Roman Comique', engraved by Gérard Scotin, Benoît Audran, Edme Jeaurat, Louis and Pierre Louis Surugue, and Bernard Lépicié, after Jean Baptiste Pater and Jacques Dumont c.1730/35. Titled on the bottom, with address 'a Paris chez L. Surugue rüe des Noyers vis-a-vis le mur de St. Yves. avec Privilege du Roy'. Theaterstuk.l Etching and engraving on paper, trimmed to plate mark; total: 304 x 384 mm; mounted on another brown sheet of paper, however this mounting has caused a small damage on the top left region of the print.
