Luijken) depicting Mercurius with peace on one side and war on the other surrounded by three more scenes: men on horseback, men at work and a naval scene. Printer's mark on title page, decorative woodcut initials, 4 large fold out engravings:1. Coronation scene of Frederik I (1657-1715) and Sophie Chartlotte of Hannover (1668-1705), first king and queen of Prussia.2. Royal barge procession: The king of Spain visits the regions of his kingdom3. The transport of artillery by prince Eugenius of Savoye (1663
¶ -1736) across the alps4. Battle scene at Pont d’Oglio in september 1701Three bookplates: - Jacques Rosenthal (1854-1937), a German bookseller and antiquarian. His bookplate depicts a monk at his writing desk with the word Silentium.- Sir Patrick Hume (1641-1724), Earl of Marchmont, Viscount of Blasonberry, Lord Polwarth and Lord High Chancelor of Scotland. His bookplate depicts his heraldic family crest with the words: true to the end, fides probata coronat, 1702.- Alexander Hume-Campbell, 2nd Earl of Marchmont PC (1675-1740), was a Scottish nobleman, politician and judge. Eldest surviving son of the above Sir Patrick Hume. His bookplate is similar to that of his father with heraldic family crest and both phrases and dated to 1722.l Two episodes of the periodical concerning European history (contemporary news to the original readers): volume 12 part 1 and part 2. It was a continuation of the periodical "Hollantsche Mercurius" and continued as "Nederlandsch gedenkboek of Europische Mercurius". The Europische Mercurius was published between 1690 and 1739.

Rough outline: The ‘Uilenspiegel’ was a weekly magazine with an anti-clerical and anti-social character. This particular edition of December, 31th 1881 (no. 27, volume 13) talks about world history, contains an admonition of the famous Dutch-German folklore character Tijl Uilenspiegel and a satirical print drawn by J. Molswilder and is called ‘Short oversight of the history of the motherland during the year 1881’ (Kort overzicht van de geschiedenis des vaderlands gedurende het jaar 1881). l Measurements: 330 x 237 mmCondition: Somewhat damaged, age-related discolouration and foxing.

Leiden, A.W. Sijthoff, 415pp. complete set of this Dutch newspaper with many woodcut illustrations, maps, portraits etc. binding gone, some bits remain of original leather binding, front loose, some wear and tear to pages and edges, many illustrations of the Franco-Prussian war (1870-71).

4 pages, original newspaper, special edition of this Haarlem newspaper, supporting the fight against the British forces in the Boer war. The Dutch population supported the Boers in this war. This edition contains supportive texts of famous Dutchmen in those days. Usual wear and tear. Some damage to the folds.

[No place, date publisher, titlepage missing] 641 pages, two fold out engraved maps: Batavia 1740 (C.W.M. van de Velde, minor easy to repair tear on fold) and Batavia en ommelanden (no signature), half leather contemporary binding, marbled paper boards, wear and tear to front and back, top and bottom of leather spine damaged, this is the complete third year of this periodical under editorship of Wolter Robert van Hoevell (1812-1879), and later H.A. Lesturgeon, the periodical was published from 1838 to 1902 (from 1848 called: Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch-Indie and therafter De Indische gids). Scarce.
