John Weis, of Cincinnati, was a successful artist, writer & poet. Contents are clean but some poems have a tick against them. London. Edward Moron, 1870., Undated, but a school book prize label (to Francis Servaes) inside front cover is dated 1870. The school's coat of arms is printed in gilt on the front cover "Haymans School, West Derby, Liverpool 1867." Hardback. 264 pages. Contents clean & near fine. Every page has an attractive border in black & white, of flowers, leaves, trees or children, plus an occasional vignette such as a church, castle ruin, or bouquet of flowers. Binding is red half leather, with title on spine in gilt lettering on a black label, & 5 raised bands. Sadly the leather is worn or scuffed on all edges & corners. Marbled endpages. The prize label was awarded for 'Proficiency in Ancient History'. 17.25cm. x 12cm. 1870
