He'd left instructions that all his papers should be destroyed, but luckily some escaped the fire. 250 letters, diaries which he kept while with the French army in Algeria, and in the Crimea war when he was with the British Army Headquarters have been used in this book. 211 pages. 8 b.& w. illustrations. 8.75" x 5.5".
