¶ Broukhusius: NNBW IV.309-311: Soldaat. Nam in 1674 deel aan de tocht van de Ruyter naar West-Indië. Bevriend met Graevius, N. Heinsius en Burmannus. Ontvluchtte Nederland na een duel met dodelijke afloop maar werd door Heinsius weer naar Nederland gehaald. Genoot ook in het buitenland grote faam als Latijns dichter. Broekhuizen wijdde zich de laatste jaren van zijn leven aan polemiek. Verdedigde Francius in diens letterkundige strijd tegen Perizonius en Gronovius.
¶ Francius and Broukhusius (Broekhuizen) were close friends. Hofman Peerlkamp writes that on the death of admiral Michiel Adriaansz.de Ruyter, a large crowd tried to enter the curch for the funeral, where Petrus Francius was to pronounce the funeral oration in latin. Broukhusius, in command of the City Guard, blocked the entrance. "Hic multos intrare cupientes Latine alloquebatur. Qui Latine respondebant, statim admisit, eorum autem, qui nesciebant, multos rejecit, praeconi in eo similis, qui olim vulgus profanum a templo Cereris arcebat." (p.446-447)
