Contemporary half calf, flat spine with title label (chipped), binding rubbed. Old ownership signature. First edition based on Paul Egede's journal. He was a Danish-Norwegian missionary and scholar who at a young age moved to Greenland with his family. His father Hans Poulsen Egede, known as the Apostle of Greenland, started the missionary work in Greenland in 1721. Paul continued his father's work as a missionary among the Kalaallit people (Inuits). Bibliographia Groenlandica p. 38, no. 70.

Occasionally some light browning to the paper. Second edition of this scarce Greenland grammar. Otho Fabricius was a Danish missionary who lived in the colony of Fredrikshaab in Greenland between 1768 and 1773. He was a student of another renowned missionary Paul Egede. Signe Rink (1836-1909) was born in Greenland where her father was the colonial administrator. At the age of 17 she married Hinrich Rink, a Danish geologist who became the colonial director of southern Greenland in Nuuk in 1858. She learned the language fluently and wrote novels and short stories about Inuit society and traditions, and translated Greenlandic folklore into Danish. Several of her books reflected on the colonial relationship between Inuits and Danes.
