GNR. 1897. Book, Great Northern Railway Distance Map no date but probably March 1897. On good quality paper which has been rolled size 89 by 61 cm. Shows GNR lines stations and distances from Kings Cross. Covers an area from London north to Peterborough & Wisbech with details as far west as Dunstable. All of East Anglia shown though most of the detail is concentrated on the London-Peterborough stretch. Good to VG condition with occasional nicks to edges outside margins. Image available.

A folding map on folding linen in 12 sections, extending concertina style in length to approximately 250 cm. and with each section 30.5 by 22.5 cm. Scale 1:2,500. Folds into stiff boards with the title gold-stamped to the front. A map of the line from Roath Junction sidings to the docks. It shows the four miles of railway in great detail, with streets, bridges, industry, junctions, other lines and property ownership of adjacent land all identified. Colour. Includes some official annotations and amendments. Based on the Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 maps. VG to mint condition. Very Good.

The Illustrated War Record
London, Swarthmore Press. 1920. Book, The Illustrated War Record published by the Swarthmore Press London circa 1920. Full title The Illustrated War Record of the most notable episodes in the Great European War 1914-1918 with special articles by leading writers. A 634-page hardback in red cloth-covered boards. Front board has a gold-stamped title and image of a warship. Size 25 by 19.5 cm. A rather unusual history of the war which includes several pages before the text bordered in gothic script intended as a family album of the fallen. These pages entitled Family Heroes and with a pro forma on the reverse for details of war service are left intentionally blank for individual owners of the book to complete with photographs telegrams and the like. Contains many photographs maps cartoons etc. Minor foxing otherwise G to VG condition. Faint name and date (1921) in ink to marbled front endpaper.

Paris, L'Illustration. 1900. Magazine, Battle of Beijing 1900. Photographs and a map of Peking. Press coverage of the siege and relief of the Legation quarter of Peking 1900. Two copies of the French news magazine L'Illustration (Saturday October 27th and Saturday November 10th 1900) that cover events in the city. Six pages of coverage in the November 10th edition include a map of Peking on a scale of approximately 2 km. to the inch. Map size 16 by 12 cm. The October 27th edtion has a large cover photo and two more pages of engravings. Each edition 40 by 19 cm. 10/11/1900 edition 18 pp; 27/10/1900 24 pp. Text in French. There is also coverage of the 1900 Paris Exhibition etc. Good to Vg condition. Very Good.

A four-page newspaper that carried news of the wars, Austerlitz; the Treaty of Presbourg; events abroad and in France including a sort of What's On at the theatre; the Bourse (stock exchange) and extracts from the Bulletin of the Grande Armee. Size 35.5 by 22 cm. These are the editions of:15/11/1805; 12/11/1805; 18/11/1805 (a small tear with minor loss); 9/12/1805; 24/12/1805/ (a small tear); 15/01/1806; 20/01/06. Each has an official stamp of the Republic to the top right-hand corner of the first page above the title. Good condition with a central fold some foxing and occasional nicks. Images available.

Delhi, Nirdosh. 1975. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Book, Latest Map of Indian Railways published by Nirdosh Publishers, Jangpura Market Delhi. No date but circa 1975. On paper size 112 by 86 cm. Colour. A large detailed map with a colour-coded key to the various companies and the lines. This shows the railways of the Northern; Eastern; North Eastern; North East Frontier; Central; Western; Southern and South Eastern lines, and also shows their different gauges (broad gauge, metre gauge and narrow gauge) plus information on the Head Offices of the Railway Companies. A poster-size map that folds into card covers. Title is within a panel edged with images of locomotives. Includes a large table of distances between cities. Previous owner's name to the front cover and minor colour offsetting to the margins outside the borders of the map. Some archival quality clear tape repair to reverse. Has been folded. Overall Good to VG condition. Good.

Book, London : The Heart of the Empire You Came to Defend A Souvenir published by the Photocrom Company London & Tunbridge Wells no date but circa 1916 produced for the 3rd London General Hospital size 31 by 24 cm. In stiff cloth covered boards. 76 pages. 38 tipped-in photographic plates. Images are almost all of London landmarks each with an accompanying page of text but there are also two pages devoted to the staff of the 3rd London General Hospital and another two pages with details of the history of the building from its origins as the Royal Victoria Patriotic Asylum and a splendid engraving of a balloon view of the hospital and its surrounds drawn by Lt. Colonel Bruce Porter and Corporal A H Fullwood in 1915. Includes a dedication in ink to a soldier in the RASC which suggests that this was a souvenir given to staff or patients on leaving the hospital. Slight wear to front hinge but binding sound title fading from front board otherwise Good condition. Images available.
