Leather is worn, gilt on spine faded (still bright on covers however), bookplate on front paste-down belonging to John Van Schaick Lansing Pruyn (1811-1877), a Member of the US House of Representatives from New York (1863-1865 and 1867-1869), spine ends and corners bumped with wear, hinges cracked with separation in spots, writing in French on front end papers and page facing the title page, a few instances of inked markings in book, several interior pages toned, a previous owner has neatly written page numbers where there are no printed page numbers.
