Maggi Hambling, James Cahill, War Requiem & Aftermath SIGNED/Inscribed
Maggi Hambling, James Cahill
War Requiem & Aftermath SIGNED/Inscribed
Unicorn, 2015. First Edition, Softcover. Fine Condition. 9781910065228 Inscribed by Author. SIGNED and dated by Maggi Hambling, and inscribed to the previous owner. First edition, first printing. Firmly bound, clean unmarked pages. A well-kept copy. This is an almost perfect book, almost as good as seeing the works live. The reproductions are superb with some magnification sufficient to see the brush strokes and more than one view of a work, for example a shot of a group of works, then some focusing on some of the individuals and then a close up of parts of some of them. The notes to the text are placed next to it, in the margins, so much easier than at the foot or at the end. The text is wholly adequate and not too arty/waffley it actually does add to the enjoyment and understanding of the works. It makes you want to see the originals even more and is a great souvenir of them. (Reader review) 160 pages. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Art & Design; Inscribed by Author. Cambridge University Press, 2008. Softcover. Fine Condition. 9780521033480 Clean unmarked pages, slight wear to covers. "Laurie Maguire's excellent book, Shakespearean Suspect Texts, is important for two main reasons: first, it reviews both the contributions and the limitations of the New Bibliographers...secondly, it examines the theory of memorial reconstruction carefully and rationally, providing useful distinctions and conclusions....lively, witty, and readable prose...." Jamal Mahjoub, A Line in the River: Khartoum, City of Memory
Jamal Mahjoub
A Line in the River: Khartoum, City of Memory
Bloomsbury Publishing, 2018. Hardcover. Fine Condition/Near Fine. 9781408885468 Clean unmarked pages, firm binding; slight markings to jacket. A Line in the River is a fine and very readable celebration of a city that has never had its fair share of attention. There is something bracing about the way Jamal Mahjoub awakens our interest in somewhere we know so little about, and about which there is so much we ought to know. He tells the story of Khartoum and Sudan from both an African and a western perspective which makes the book informative and accessible, and always held together by the intimacy of his personal voyage of discovery (Michael Palin) 416 pages. Marc Leger, ed.
Identity Trumps Socialism: The Class and Identity Debate after Neoliberalism
Routledge, 2023. Softcover. Fine Condition. 9781032341804 Firmly bound, clean unmarked pages, slight wear to covers. With essays by today’s leading leftist social critics, Identity Trumps Socialism presents a rigorous and persuasive primer on the problems generated by postmodern and neoliberal challenges to the legacy of emancipatory universality. In addition to the ways in which capitalism has used racialized and gendered forms of oppression to divide the working class, today’s activism must also understand how neoliberal capitalism uses identity politics to undermine socialism. Identity Trumps Socialism advances an emancipatory left universality that addresses the limits of diversity and makes the case for the centrality of class in the struggle against global capitalist hegemony. 216 pages.
